Exposure of an Impacted Tooth

After a routine exposure of an impacted tooth, you will notice a fine gold colored chain exiting through the gum tissue in the area where the tooth is located. This will be connected to the orthodontic wire with a suture. In some cases you may also notice a portion of the impacted tooth that was intentionally left exposed.
If surgical packing was placed, leave it alone. The packing helps to keep the tooth exposed. If it gets dislodged or falls out, do not be alarmed but please contact our office for instructions.
Please be careful when you brush your teeth to avoid pulling on the chain or the suture that holds it.
Please contact our office if you have any questions.
